This course is designed for people who work in health and social care services, charities or education and is aimed at those who already have people handling skills. It is also suitable for managers who have little or no experience of the delivery of moving and handling training but have the responsibility for monitoring, advising and managing staff on moving and handling in the workplace.
IOSH Train the Trainer - People Handling course is designed to give those with people handling skills an underpinning knowledge of health and safety legislation and current moving and handling principles to provide them with the necessary knowledge and skills to train staff in the workplace.
The Train the Trainer – People Handling course consists of:
- Definition of manual handling
- Types of injuiries caused by poor manual handling
- Anatomy and human movement
- Safer handling technique
- Risk assessment process and practical handling
- Training Skills
- Manual handling legislation
- Principles of safe people handling
- The pre-transfer assessment
- Client transfer movements
- Use of slide sheets
- Use of slings and hoist
- The falling/fallen person
- Use of wheelchair and other handling aids
Part one - multiple choice question paper manual handling (20 questions)
Part two - Multiformat question paper people handling (20 questions)
Part three - Completion of manual handling risk assessment and practical teaching session, 15 minutes in duration.
Each delegate will receive an IOSH certificate after successfully completing the course and a instructor pack with a comprehensive course manual, lesson plans and useful extras such as a sample test paper.
No equipment is required for this course.
Delegates must have certified People Handling skills prior to attending this course.

Am I going to feel safe during my course participation?
Beside the fact that our staff and the environment of the school will make you feel happy and safe, CCTV is operating in most of the school’s areas.
I’m getting on a bit, is it like going back to school and will I feel out of place?
Not at all. A large percentage of our learners are mature students simply keeping up to date with current standards. Everybody is made to feel welcome in the centre.
