Course Summary

The aim of the 180 Excavator Course is to provide delegates with the basic knowledge and practical skills involved in operating a 180 Excavator to the CPCS (Construction Plant Competence Scheme) standard.

The Excavator 180 course content is as follows:

  •     Operate the 180? wheeled excavator
  •     safely and productively
  •     Fit and operate ancillary equipment
  •     Site the machine safely and efficiently
  •     Carry out minor adjustments and routine servicing procedures
  •     Prepare the machine for travelling on the public highway
  •     Understand the capabilities, purposes and limitations of each machine
  •     Follow all necessary safety precautions
  •     Interpret the information provided by level pegs and profiles
  •     Be aware of the necessary routine adjustments and service procedures, and carry them out
  •     Work to levels with the aid of laser equipment.

Completing the course successfully will entitle you to a CPCS Red Trained Operator Card (upon successful completion of the appropriate CPCS Technical Test).

Who is it for?

It is suitable for those who have not received any formal instruction or for those who want to refresh their skills.

Candidates will be required to have suitable PPE with them on this course.

Your skill level

Before taking the course you must:

Have passed a CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test no more than two years before attending this course.

Have a good understanding of spoken and written English.

There are a variety of hotels and B & B’s in the area. There is a list available to assist you with booking your stay.

Am I going to feel safe during my course participation?

Beside the fact that our staff and the environment of the school will make you feel happy and safe, CCTV is operating in most of the school’s areas.

I’m getting on a bit, is it like going back to school and will I feel out of place?

Not at all. A large percentage of our learners are mature students simply keeping up to date with current standards. Everybody is made to feel welcome in the centre.
