FAQs
What can I use my certificate for?
Certificates provide proof of achievement and are valuable documents that should be kept safe. Employers, professional bodies and academic institutions may ask to see Unit Certificates and/or overall Qualification Parchment as evidence of the award holder’s achievement.
What are the consequences of falsely claiming to hold a NEBOSH qualification?
NEBOSH keeps records of all examination candidates and all persons who have been awarded one of our qualifications. Each Unit Certificate and Qualification Parchment has a number of anti-forgery and anti-fraud features, including a unique identifying number enabling us to cross check the details of the person to whom that numbered Certificate or Parchment was issued. We will assist employers and recruitment agencies in verifying that prospective or existing employees actually do hold NEBOSH qualifications. Falsifying qualifications in order to obtain a job is a reason for instantly dismissing the employee concerned for serious misconduct under the Employment Rights Act 1996.
Falsely claiming to hold a qualification is also a criminal offence under the Fraud Act 2006. The person making the claim is guilty of ‘Fraud by False Representation’ under Section 2 of the Act.
NEBOSH will report such cases to the police and will provide evidence to support a prosecution.
Further, we may inform appropriate professional bodies of the attempted fraud where their members have participated, (for example by supplying a genuine parchment from which the forgery was made).
Who receives the Certificate?
Unit Certificates and Parchments for Certificate-level qualifications are normally issued to course providers for distribution to students.
Unit certificates and qualification parchments for Diploma-level qualifications are normally issued directly to students. Please contact your course provider to check their arrangements.
My certificate has been lost, can I get a replacement?
The regulatory authorities require that where the original certificate has been lost, stolen or not received the replacement is marked ?reissue’ and printed with the reissue date. However, the certificate reference number will remain the same as the original. Once a certificate or parchment has been re-issued the original will no longer be valid. If a lost or stolen original is later presented to NEBOSH for authentication it will be identified as invalid.
Repeated requests for re-issues from the same candidate and/or accredited course provider will be investigated before they are accepted. If evidence of fraudulent and /or negligent activity is found, the incident will be treated by NEBOSH as malpractice and where appropriate, reported to the appropriate authorities.
