Course Summary
This course teaches drivers how to ensure the safe movement of vehicles, to be aware of potential dangers and to know the recommended HSE code of signals and to be able to safely manoeuvre a large vehicle and trailer around the site.
It aims to teach drivers how to ensure the safe movement of vehicles and to be aware of dangers around the site. The course content is as follows:-
- Company safety procedures and site assessment
- Health and Safety at Work Act
- Dangers of vehicles reversing on site
- Forward and Reverse driving in yard
- Understanding the vehicle and trailer controls
- Personal Protective Equipment and its use
- Correct coupling and uncoupling of trailers
- HSE 136 standard code or signals
- Ensure the handover procedure is fully implemented and understood
- Assessment
The completion of this course allows learners to drive on the company's site only and not on the public highway. Delegates will be issued with a certificate of basic training and authorisation to operate. The certificate is valid for 3 years, however, we recommend yearly refresher courses.

Am I going to feel safe during my course participation?
Beside the fact that our staff and the environment of the school will make you feel happy and safe, CCTV is operating in most of the school’s areas.
I’m getting on a bit, is it like going back to school and will I feel out of place?
Not at all. A large percentage of our learners are mature students simply keeping up to date with current standards. Everybody is made to feel welcome in the centre.
