Course Summary

The AED (Automated External Defibrillator), BLS (Basic Life Saving) & CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) Course delivers a minimum of 6 hours of theory and practical instruction and assessment, depending upon previous training and experience and is aimed at anyone who requires a course in AED use. AED units are becoming more common in the community and workplace.

Successful delegates will gain a good understanding of basic life saving techniques and in particular the correct methods of using an AED in line with current approved methods and manufacturer’s instructions.  The course agenda includes:

Introductory First Aid Training

  • Fears of First Aid and Asking Permission to Help
  • Scene Safety
  • Chain of Survival and ABCD’S
  • Initial Assessment – “Stop, Think, Act”
  • Barriers and Face Shields

Cardiac Arrest

  • Adult, Child, Infant CPR
  • Adult CPR Hand Over
  • Compression Only CPR

AED Use

  • AED Intro
  • AED Demo and Set-up
  • Child AED
  • Training AED Units
  • The Zoll AED Plus
  • AED Maintenance and Batteries
  • AED Pads and Location

 

On successful completion of this course, candidates will be awarded with a AoFA QCF Certificate of Training and Photo ID Card (valid for 3 years).

Who is it for?

The Basic Life Support (BLS) and AED Course is aimed at personnel who wish to equip themselves with an understanding and ability of the correct methods of using an AED (Automated External Defibrillators) and basic first aid techniques. There are no prerequisites required for this course.

Am I going to feel safe during my course participation?

Beside the fact that our staff and the environment of the school will make you feel happy and safe, CCTV is operating in most of the school’s areas.

I’m getting on a bit, is it like going back to school and will I feel out of place?

Not at all. A large percentage of our learners are mature students simply keeping up to date with current standards. Everybody is made to feel welcome in the centre.
