This course is aimed at personnel who are or will be responsible for using safety harnesses, lanyards and associated F.P.E (Fall Protection Equipment) in the work place.
Course Summary
Our Safety Harness ? Level 1 (Essentials) Course delivers a minimum of four hours of both theory and hands on practical instruction and assessment, providing delegates with a good understanding of the principles for using Personal Fall Protection Equipment (PFPE) in the workplace. This course also provides each delegate with a base theoretical knowledge of the work at height regulations required to effectively reduce the risks associated with working at height, the hierarchy of control measures and using personal prevention and protection systems for fall restraint, work positioning and arrest. This is a classroom theory based course intended as a prerequisite to specific practical training such as our Safety Harness ? Level 2 (Roof Top Safety), Safety Harness ? Level 3 (Inspection) and Safety Harness ? Level 4 (Rescue) courses.
The Work at Height Regulations require that 'Every employer shall ensure that no person engages in any activity, including organisation, planning and supervision, in any relation to working at height or work equipment for use in such work unless he is competent to do so or, if being trained, is being supervised by a competent person'. If you or your operatives use safety harnesses as part of your normal duties we strongly recommend that you engage in suitable and sufficient training.
Candidates attending the Safety Harness ? Level 1 (Essentials) course will gain a comprehensive knowledge of work at height safety, harness and lanyard pre-use inspection and fitting including:
- Safety legislation, work at height regulations
- Accident statistics
- Hazards and risks
- Fall prevention, fall restraint, fall protection & fall arrest
- Harness types and design standards
- Component parts of a fall arrest system (The A,B,C,D & E)
- Identifying correct tie-off and anchor points
- Pre-Use inspection of harness & lanyard with practical exercise
- Correct wearing and fitting of harness with practical exercise
- Harness/lanyard storage, care and cleaning
- Rescue provision requirements
- Hazard analysis & risk assessment
Multiple Choice Test Paper and Practical Skills Assessment
Each successful delegate will receive a Certificate of Training and Photo ID Card (valid for 3 years)

Am I going to feel safe during my course participation?
Beside the fact that our staff and the environment of the school will make you feel happy and safe, CCTV is operating in most of the school’s areas.
I’m getting on a bit, is it like going back to school and will I feel out of place?
Not at all. A large percentage of our learners are mature students simply keeping up to date with current standards. Everybody is made to feel welcome in the centre.
If I don’t have a safety harness, would it be provided?
