Course Summary

This course complies with the recommendations of the Health & Safety Commission 'Approved Code Of Practice and Supplementary Guidance for Rider Operated Lift Truck Operator Training' (L117).

On successful completion of this theoretical and practical training course trainees should be able to operate the machine safely and skilfully. They will have practiced manoeuvring the machine both unladen and laden in confined areas, stacked and de-stacked at various levels and will have been instructed in daily and pre-shift inspection and refuelling procedures.

All trainees will also have undergone the appropriate theoretical and practical tests of 'basic operating skills and knowledge' as endorsed by the appropriate accrediting bodies.

  • The correct operation of the lift truck model used during training safely, correctly and in accordance with the manufacturer’s handbook and accepted good practice
  • The causes of instability of the lift truck and loads
  • Routine pre-use inspection of the lift truck

Successful candidates will be certificated and their employers will receive a written assessment and a certificate of attendance.

Who is it for?

The ideal course for the person with no operational experience who requires full formal training in the use of lift trucks, as recommended in the Health & Safety Commission ‘Approved Code Of Practice and Supplementary Guidance for Rider Operated Lift Truck Operator Training’ (L117). Applicants must be physically and mentally capable of operating a powerful machine safely. If in doubt medical consultation is advised.

FAQs

Is there a minimum age requirement for completing Pallet Truck training?

Lift Truck operators in the UK must be over the minimum school leaving age (except in docks where they must be at least 18 years old). With the exception of Lift Truck operators, there is no minimum age outlined in any UK legislation for other plant operators.

What is ‘specific job training’?

‘Specific job training’ captures the specific working environment of the operator; it includes discussing potential hazardous operations/ areas, the different loads an operator might be expected to lift, lower or transport and any other job specifics.

What is ‘familiarisation training’?

“Familiarisation training’ includes introduction and practical time on the truck along with any attachments that may be fitted that the operator actually uses.

Yes, there are a lot of FREE car parking spaces available in the area.

There are a variety of hotels and B & B’s in the area. There is a list available to assist you with booking your stay.

Am I going to feel safe during my course participation?

Beside the fact that our staff and the environment of the school will make you feel happy and safe, CCTV is operating in most of the school’s areas.

I’m getting on a bit, is it like going back to school and will I feel out of place?

Not at all. A large percentage of our learners are mature students simply keeping up to date with current standards. Everybody is made to feel welcome in the centre.
