Course Summary

The aim of the Industrial Counterbalance Forklift Truck Course is to provide candidates with the basic knowledge and practical skills involved in operating a Industrial Counterbalance to the NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme) standard.

Candidates will participate in theory lessons and practical demonstrations / exercises, all of
which are highlighted by the use of OHP & Videos covering;

  • An Introduction to the Construction Industry
  • Current relevant regulations
  • Introduction to machine
  • Pre?shift inspections
  • Controls and instruments
  • Components and main types of lift trucks
  • Re?fuelling systems
  • Coolant, fuel and lubrication systems
  • Emergency controls
  • Driving on / off ramps
  • Operators safety code
  • Handling loaded / unloaded pallets and difficult shaped loads

The course objectives are that candidates will:

  • Be able to operate the machine safely and correctly in accordance with manufacturers’ instructions and accepted good practice.
  • Carry out a pre – shift inspection.
  • Be able to load and unload vehicles and static racking.
  • Understand the causes of instability of the truck and loads.
  • Have sufficient knowledge and practical skills to successfully complete the NPORS assessment.

All candidates will complete the NPORS assessment and on successful completion will be issued with an NPORS Operators Card.

Who is it for?

All personnel required to operate a Industrial Counterbalance Forklift Truck should complete this training and testing.

Delegates are required to provide appropriate PPE for this course.

Your skill level

It is recommended that all candidates complete the NPORS specific Health and Safety Test.

Do I need to pay for my training before I do it?

Yes, there are a lot of FREE car parking space available in the area.

What accommodation is available?

There are a variety of hotels and B&B’s in the area. There is a list available to assist you with booking your stay.

Am  I going to feel safe during my course participation?

Beside the fact that our staff and the environment of the school will make you feel happy and safe, CCTV is operating in most of the school’s areas.

I’m getting on a bit, is it like going back to school and will I feel out of place?

Not at all.  A large percentage of our learners are mature students simply keeping up to date with current standards.  Everybody is made to feel welcome in the centre.

How long does a licence last?

Forklift truck certificates (licences) do not expire. There is no specific time period after which you need to provide/undertake refresher training. It is suggested refresher training is undertaken every 3-5 years to ensure operators maintain of good driving habits, learn new skills where appropriate and have their abilities reassessed.

Will my forklift certificate cover all trucks?

Unfortunately not. Each type of fork lift truck has different operating procedures. If you hold a current certificate for one truck, eg counterbalance, you would require a conversion course for another.
