Course Summary

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER r9(1)) requires that users of Work Equipment be adequately trained for the purposes of health and safety. This also applies to persons who manage or supervise people at work (PUWER r9(2)). The aim of this course is to train people in the skills and knowledge needed to achieve the standards of competency required to carry out pre-use inspection and safe and correct use of Portable Power Tools in the workplace.

This course will also cover the basic requirements of the: Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992 (PPE Regulations), The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH Regulations), The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 and the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005 (with reference to HAVS).

Abrasive Wheels training will still be required, in addition to this course, for any person who wishes to inspect and mount abrasive wheels at work.

On completion of this course, the trainee will be able to identify defects which is the purpose of the inspection to discover and to have a basic understanding of the safe and correct use of Portable Power Tools at work. Candidates will receive an industry recognised certificate of attendance.

There are a variety of hotels and B&B’s in the area. There is a list available to assist you with booking your stay.

Am  I going to feel safe during my course participation?

Beside the fact that our staff and the environment of the school will make you feel happy and safe, CCTV is operating in most of the school’s areas.

I’m getting on a bit, is it like going back to school and will I feel out of place?

Not at all.  A large percentage of our learners are mature students simply keeping up to date with current standards.  Everybody is made to feel welcome in the centre.

Does my portable electric equipment have to be tested every year?

No, it is not a legal requirement to test your equipment every year, but the Electricity at Work Regulations require that any equipment which may cause injury must be maintained in a safe condition.
