Course Summary
The aim of this course is to train delegates in the skills and knowledge to achieve the standards of competency to enable them to inspect and safely use portable power tools.
The Safe Use of Power Tools course consists of the following topics:
- Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER 1998, LOLER 1998 and other relevant legislation
- Pre-operational checks
- Risk assessments
- HAVS (Hand and Arm Vibration Syndrome)
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Safe operation of power tools
- Safe use and storage
- Cutting tools (saws)
- Specific information on circular saws
Delegates will be required to take part in a practical assessment which, after successful completion will entitle you to an approved supplier certificate proving competence in the Safe Use of Power Tools. Certificate is valid for one year.

- Mitre chop saw
- Small table circular saw
- Electric hand planer
- Electric belt sander
- Electric jig saw
It is also advised that delegates have safety gloves, eye and ear protection.
