SSSTS vs SMSTS: Which Course is Right for You?

If you’re unsure whether to take the SSSTS or SMSTS course, it depends on your role:

  • SSSTS is for site supervisors, foremen, and team leaders responsible for overseeing site safety on a daily basis.
  • SMSTS is for site managers and those responsible for managing health and safety across multiple teams or large sites.

At the end of the SSSTS training course, you will take a short theory test which consists of multiple choice questions. Upon successful completion of the SSSTS course, you will receive an industry recognised CITB certificate which is valid for five years. Established in 1974, the Construction Industry Training Board is the Training Board for the construction trade in the UK.

How long does SSSTS certification last?

The SSSTS certification is valid for 5 years. You will need to complete a refresher course to maintain your certification before it expires.

What happens if my SSSTS certificate expires?

If your SSSTS certificate expires, you’ll need to take the full SSSTS course again to renew your qualification. It’s recommended to take the SSSTS Refresher course before your certificate expires to avoid this.
