Course Summary

The SMSTS course is for all site managers who work within civil engineering, construction and or has responsibility for any part of site management. The SMSTS training course is to enable managers to organise and monitor the Health and Safety performance on site, enable them to establish and maintain safe access systems and satisfying legislation.

The SMSTS training course consists of theory instruction including:

  •     CDM Regulations
  •     Site Set up
  •     Scaffolding
  •     Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
  •     Risk assessments and method statements
  •     Confined spaces
  •     Changes in accepted working practices and other construction topics
  •     Excavations
  •     Electricity
  •     Demolition

At the end of the SMSTS training course, you will take a short theory test. Upon successful completion of the SMSTS course, you will receive an industry recognised CITB certificate which is valid for five years. Established in 1974, the Construction Industry Training Board is the Training Board for the construction trade in the UK.

There are no formal qualifications required in order to attend the SMSTS course although experience within construction would be recommended.

Do I pay for my training in advance?

My ticket is due to expire, how long do I have to renew it?

An SMSTS refresher course must be taken before your current ticket expires.

Is the SMSTS course recognised by the HSE?

Yes, the SMSTS training course is an accredited course which, after successful completion, will entitle you to an industry recognised CITB (Council and Industry Training) Certificate.

I’m getting on a bit, is it like going back to school and will I feel out of place?

Not at all. A large percentage of our learners are mature students simply keeping up to date with current standards. Everybody is made to feel welcome in the centre.

When do I receive my certificate after I pass?

Certificates are issued by CITB (Construction Industry Training Board / Construction Skills). It can take between 4 ? 8 weeks for the certificate to arrive. Certificates arrive by post.
